e-procurement

What is e-procurement?

e-procurement is an end-to-end requisition to pay process for obtaining or acquiring goods and services electronically across the Internet. It is also a mechanism for electronic catalogues, managing tenders and quotations, contract management and spend analysis.

Why is e-procurement a priority in the government’s electronic services delivery targets?

The Government recognises that councils can save considerable sums of taxpayers’ money by implementing electronic procurement. Automating procurement processes will save time and resources.

How will e-procurement benefit the supplier?

Suppliers find the orders they receive are more accurate, and are paid more quickly. Your catalogue will be available on-line, reducing errors and the need for hard copy catalogues, and reducing the costs associated with manual ordering.

What are e-auctions?

Electronic reverse auctions or e-auctions helps us to optimise the price we pay for goods and services bought in. They are usually the final stage of a tender process where suppliers are invited to bid online for the council’s business in an open, transparent and fully audited environment.

What are e-RFQs?

e-RFQs are electronic requests for quotations – a type of mini electronic tender where the council can buy or source goods and services that are either not suitable for catalogue content or have a fluctuating price, often from pre-negotiated framework contracts.

Where can I find additional information about e-procurement?

The National eProcurement Project (NePP) set up by the Communities and Local Government, formerly ODPM is a good place to start. It has practical advice, case studies and useful links.
