Mental health
Mental health problems can affect us all at some point in our lives. We all have times when we feel stress, anxiety, depression and emotional distress. It is said that one in four people will suffer from some form of mental illness during their lives.
Mental health issues can involve a range of conditions from anxiety and phobias to manic depression and schizophrenia.
The community mental health team (CMHT) for adults is a multi-disciplinary group made up of a range of mental health experts including psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists and social workers.
The team provides a specialist and community based health and social care service for people with severe mental illness. The care and treatment includes assessment, care plans, clinical support, therapeutic support and monitoring progress.
The service is primarily for adults aged between 18 and 65 years, although the CMHT will work with people outside this age group if an emergency arises, such as a young person under 18 needing emergency hospital admission.
The CMHT works closely with in-patients services at St Clements Hospital, specialist forensic hospitals, other social service sections and colleagues from the voluntary sector.
