School clothing grants
A school clothing grant can help towards the cost of a school uniform for children aged 11, who are changing from primary to secondary school this September.
How do I qualify?
To qualify you (the parent or guardian) must be receiving one of the following benefits:
- Income support or
- Income-based jobseeker’s allowance or
- Working families tax credit
You may also qualify if you are getting one of the following benefits as your only form of income:
- Incapacity benefit
- Disability living allowance
- Widowed mother’s allowance
- Disabled person’s tax credit

How much is the grant?
The grant for 2008/09 is £107 for each child that meets the conditions.

When should I apply?
Apply can only be made during the school summer holidays from 30 June to 30 September.

How do I apply?
It is easy to apply, all you need to do is:
- fill in an application form; and
- show us proof of your income
Proof of your income can be a photocopy of your benefit books, recent benefit award letter, latest giro should be sent with your application or, if you visit your area benefits office, the staff there will be pleased to photocopy your details for you.
If you are already in receipt of housing benefit or council tax benefit you do not need to send in proof of your income.
Send the completed form and proof of income to your area benefits office.
