Museums & galleries

Tower Hamlets is home to a diverse range of arts and culture centres, which draw from both the borough’s rich history and from modern contemporary culture. Some of Britain’s best-known modern artists are based in Tower Hamlets, including Tracey Emin and Gilbert & George. Their work can often be spotted in local galleries.
Over 100 galleries open until 9pm on the first Thursday of each month, as part of the ‘First Thursdays’ initiative. Visit www.firstthursdays.co.uk to find out more about the galleries and to book onto the monthly guided bus tour.
