Electrical and electronic waste
Thanks to the EU Directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), it is now much easier to get your unwanted appliances recycled.
It is producers who have to pay for the recycling of WEEE and in general they have opted to fund collection schemes at council-run Civic amenity sites / Reuse and recycling Centres.
In Tower Hamlets the Reuse and recycling centre at Northumberland Wharf has now been set up as a collection facility for all types of WEEE. We have separate containers for the following categories:
- Large household appliances, such as washing machines, freezers, cookers
- Small household appliances, electrical tools, toys, leisure and sports equipment, such as vacuum cleaners, sewing machines, electric drills, radios, electric train sets, video game consoles etc.
- IT equipment, such as computers and keyboards
- Mobile phones
- TVs & computer monitors
- Fluorescent tubes
Please help us by separating out your WEEE into the above categories and one of the site attendants will be happy to help you.
