Home ownership help for private tenants
The housing corporation part funds two schemes that aim to help people on lower incomes to become homeowners, by assisting them to buy properties on the open market. These schemes are:
- the shared ownership scheme, and
- the homebuy scheme (see below).
The homebuy scheme
This scheme helps tenants of registered social landlords and local authorities buy a home on the open market.
Through the homebuy scheme, you can get an interest-free loan to cover a quarter of the property's price.
