Beacon 2008/09
Welcome to our reducing re-offending Beacon page. Here you can find out more about the work we are doing which earned us 'Beacon' recognition, and find out about events and activities we are planning.
Overview
In March 2008 Tower Hamlets was awarded Beacon Status for reducing re-offending. The judges were impressed with our widespread strategic commitment to reducing re-offending, and the links we have made with plans to tackle social exclusion in the borough.
Our vision for reducing re-offending is, 'To ensure that every ex-offender in or returning to the borough gets the right services.' To achieve this vision innovative services have been developed and delivered in partnership with the probation service, the youth offending team, the drug action team and third sector partners. The focus of work is on the seven pathways outlined in the London resettlement strategy. These are: accommodation; education; training and employment; children and families; health; drugs; finance; debt and benefits; and attitudes, thinking and behaviour.
Beacon events and learning activities
On Thursday 18 September the reducing re-offending Beacons held a successful learning exchange, in conjunction with the improvement and development agency. Tower Hamlets delivered a workshop on meeting the needs of short-sentence offenders, and met with David Hanson, MP.
Information about upcoming Beacon events will be posted here, and on the IDeA website.
If you would like us to keep you informed about learning activities we are running, please fill in the Learning Needs Survey (word 128k) and email it to beacon@towerhamlets.gov.uk.
