Direct Debit prize draw
Council tax - payment by Direct Debit
Paying your council tax by Direct Debit is easy peasy and you could win up to £1500 in our new competition.
Once you have set up your Direct Debit, you can relax in the knowledge that every month, your council tax will be paid correctly and on time, without you having to do anything.
You don't have to worry about getting to the bank, visiting a council office, making a call or logging on and paying on line. All the worry and pressure of making your council tax payment on time is taken away.
The correct amount will automatically be debited from your bank or building society account, and if that amount should need to change, for example at the start of the new financial year we will write and let you know first.
To set up your Direct Debit all you need to do is call 020 7364 5002. You can choose to set it up over the phone instantly, or a form can be posted out to you for you to complete.
Your monthly payment can be taken on the first, 10th or 20th of each month (or nearest working day thereafter).
Please note: Direct Debits cannot be made from certain types of account, for example a savings account. Please check with your bank if you are unsure.
You should check to make sure you have the correct amount of money in your account to cover the payment at this date.
It takes time for us to set up your direct debit. You should continue to pay your council tax until we send you a revised bill.
The Direct Debit guarantee
This guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that take part in the Direct Debit scheme. The efficiency and security of the scheme is monitored and protected by your own bank or building society.
If the amounts to be paid or the payment date changes, London Borough of Tower Hamlets will notify you 10 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed.
If an error is made by London Borough of Tower Hamlets or your bank or building society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid.
You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your bank or building society. Please also send a copy of your letter to us.
Prize draw
Not only is Direct Debit the easiest way for you to pay but it is also the easiest way for us to collect your payment.
Therefore as a way to say thank you for choosing this option we have joined together with three other neighbouring London boroughs to launch a new competition.
If you choose to pay your council tax by Direct Debit then you will be automatically entered into a prize draw with the chance to win the following prizes:
- First prize: £1500
- Second prize: £100
- Third prize: £50
There is only one main prize of £1500 for which residents of all four boroughs could win, but each borough will select both a second and third prize winner. Terms and conditions apply.
Please note: If you already pay your council tax by Direct Debit then you don't have to do anything, you will be automatically entered into the prize draw, as long as you are still paying by Direct Debit at the close of the competition.
If you are a council tax payer in Havering, Newham or Barking and Dagenham you are also able to take part in this competition. All you have to do is contact your local authority for more information about how you can set up your Direct Debit.
The closing date for this competition is Friday 30 January 2009 at 12 midday. Please read the terms and conditions for full details
