The full council of 51 elected members still retains responsibility for setting the budget and the level of council tax. It is also responsible for approval of the strategic policy framework, including adoption of statutory plans.
However under the new council structure the main decision-making part of the authority is the ten-member cabinet, which meets in public once a month to take all key decisions on behalf of the council.
As well as the cabinet there are four other main committees on the council, including the Overview and scrutiny committee .
